Sciatica is an irritation of the sciatic nerve. The sciatica nerve is made up of nerves that come from the back and form a grouping of nerves. They travel into the hip and down the back of the leg towards the foot. Sciatic symptoms tend to present with numbness or tingling into the leg. It can also present with excessive tension in the leg due to limited tolerance to movement of the nerve.
Treatment varies depending on where the nerve is being most pinched or inflamed. This can sometimes be at the low back, the hip, or further down the leg. Oftentimes there are multiple points where the nerve is unable to glide well due to tension and pinching.
Treatment times can vary depending on the extent of nerve damage and inflammation and the cause of it.
